Poetry group invites writers to read at monthly series

By Jessica Mealy

Local poet pair Cathy Cofell and Karla Huston read personal works at the Harmony Café in downtown Appleton Oct. 15.

In connection with the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poetry, the event was held as part of the Fox Valley region's monthly poetry series at the café.

The twosome read "Split Personality" and "Call & Response", two poems from their collection, to the audience.

"It was interesting that it was a duo," Brady Bartel, a session attendee, said.

"[Their collaboration] is very symbolic and full of meaning for one another. It's fascinating that they created their own way of writing, a whole new way to write poetry," attendee Stacey Dudley said.

Following the featured readings by Cofell and Huston, several attendees were invited to share their poetry in a poetry open mic.

Harmony Café holds poetry readings and open mic sessions every third Monday of the month in the Program Room on the shop's first floor. A featured guest reads for the first thirty minutes and the rest of the evening is dedicated to open mic. All events are free and open to the public.

The shop's next event is scheduled for Nov. 19 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Featured poets Ralph Murre and Ellen Kort will give a reading.
